This week only one station is graded -- Station A. Station A for 6th grade is vocabulary sentences for Ten Little Indians. Station A for 7th grade is 10 questions on Touching Spirit Bear.
Two of the stations are providing in-class work time to get the two out-of-class projects started. These projects will require work outside of class time as well.
Project 1: Out of class novel for the month of May needs to be completed and a "Top Ten List" created by May 29th. The "Top Ten List" has been explained in depth in class, and there is a detailed poster on the wall in my room as well.
Project 2: Our final speech for the year will be "A Year In Review." This is a speech combined with a review activity for the final exam. Students will go through their notes and binders and collected work in order to find examples of things they learned this year. Their speeches will be an opportunity for a full class review for the final exam. Details for the speech are available on the wall in my classroom, and I went over the guidelines orally as well.
Only nineteen days of school remain; summer is approaching fast! I encourage you to access the myriad of opportunities available to students this summer. Camps and Rec programs abound, and many of these have flyers which have been distributed though TA time. I will be holding a "Humanities Camp" with Mrs. Clement from July 15th through July 19th. Our topic is "Food For Thought." We will spend the week exploring a myriad of issues around food -- where our food comes from, what is considered "food" in different cultures and different time periods, the locally grown and organic movements, food scarcity in Vermont, and more. We'll be caring for the school's busy composting worms, taking a field trip to a farm, reading several books, writing a family food story, cooking a snack from a different culture each day, and more. I will be sharing more information and registration forms with students in 6th and 7th grades tomorrow, so please ask your kiddo about his or her interest. I have only 20 slots, so students must register in advance.
Take care,
Abby Wald
