This week's assignments

Three assignments for this week:

1.  Make corrections and have a parent sign your Word Whiz Four test.
2.  Final draft of personal essay due on Wednesday, March 2.  This is an extension from the original due date of today (Feb 28).
3.  Outside of class reading book (fantasy or sci fi) needs to be finished and letter #2 written by Thursday, March 3.

Personal Essay due date extended and

Due to lots of absence and in order to give kids two more days to access after school study for typing time, the final drafts of the personal essays are now due on Wednesday, March 2.

 

The last letter for the independent reading project is still due on March 3. This letter may be typed or handwritten.

Homework Tonight and through Weekend

Homework DUE MONDAY is to create a final draft of the Personal Essay on the Interdisciplinary Unit on the Civil Rights Movement.  Students will not likely have class time to complete this, so arrangements should be made to spend lunch time with me, study hall time, or after school study time working on the essay.

homework tonight and Tuesday

Homework tonight is to create a 40 question/point quiz using Fun and Useful Words, Word Parts, and Language Arts Words.  You may not simply list words and ask that they be defined.  You should do matching, multiple choice, fill in the blank, et cetera.   This quiz may be done online, may be handwritten, or may be typed. It is due Wednesday.

Block 2 students need to finish the chapter 3 questions for The Pearl.

 

ALL students need to read to the halfway point in their fantasy books and write a 350 word letter to me.  The letter must summarize the text as read so far, and then write a detailed reaction/response to the reading.  Things to consider when reacting/responding:

  • Do I like the book so far?  Why?  Why not?
  • What is my opinion of the main character?
  • What is the world of the book like?  How is it similar to my world?  How is it different? Would I like to live there?
  • Who or what in the book is GOOD?  Who or what is EVIL?
  • What do I think is likely to happen next?  On what do I base this prediction?
  • If there are different races of creatures in my book, what are the characteristics of each?  Which is most like me?  Which is most unlike me?

Weekend and Assignment due 2/10

This weekend, there is no specific assignment.  However, students should be reading in their fantasy / science fiction novels so they can be HALF FINISHED and write a 350 word letter to me by 2/10.  The first half of the letter should be summary of what they read in the first half of the book.  The second half of the letter should be reaction, response, prediction, and other thoughts about the book.

Impending Storm

If there is a snow storm and we miss school on Wednesday, I will still be expecting typed second drafts from students.  If the storm knocks out power for the day, obviously I will give an extension until Friday.
